what is new?

let’s say you haven’t had chocolate for a long time.

until one fine day, you look at chocolate again and remember how good it tasted. maybe you even indulge in some chocolate again. then another fine day, many days later, you hit a point where you remember that you’ve once come across chocolate, but you do not remember about how it feels to taste chocolate. then another day, many days later, you will barely remember ever having experienced such a thing as chocolate. and then, finally, you will forget that you have ever had such a thing called chocolate. maybe, you go to the store and look at a chocolate bar but this time, you have a vague feeling of how it tastes but not really. you forget how good it tasted so you decide against it. then, one fine day, many more days later, you forget ever having any recollection of the chocolate. you simply walk past it the few times we come across it.

well, now, you forgot that you’ve ever even thought about such a thing as chocolate. that the idea of a chocolate has ever existed is news to you, let alone the fact that you have ever tasted it.

it sounds unimagineable that there was even such a thing as chocolate. looking at the bar does not illicit any attraction or feelings of past behaviour. until maybe one day, you sit down to eat some chocolate at a friend’s place and he mentions how much he loved chocolate before and how long it has been since he has had some. then, you wonder have i had it before? and you think and dig deep in your memories and look for that time you’ve had some chocolate and you just cannot find any memory of having even seen a chocolate.

that chocolate bar is new. you just felt that taste of chocolate for the first time.

and then, you have some vague recollection of having eaten something similar before, but you cannot tell if it was cacao or coffee beans. you just kind of stop worrying about it and eat it anyway. and then, you think it tastes great but the thought of cavities fill your brain and so, you stave off the chocolate.

until one fine day, you look at chocolate again and remember how good it tasted.
